On September 21st, Puerto Rico was affected by an island wide power outage where close to 1.5 million households, small and large businesses stopped operating completely.
Many thought it was a regular outage of an hour or two. As a Pharmacy we were prepared to provide service as long as the outage lasted. Operating on the island we know that at any moment, the power can go out, the weather can affect roads and services.
Up and Running in a Timely Manner
For that reason, we had the generator ready and working for our customers shortly after the power was lost. Our generators can work for 14 days in a row if something like this outage ever occurs again. Days later, the Power Company was on track with normal operations and a few areas were still affected.
Emergency and Specialty Hours
If there is anything like the power outage or if a natural disaster should occur, we are ready to keep operating. Our regular hours are from 8:00 a.m to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
During national emergencies and holidays the hours are as follows:
National Emergencies: 8:00 to 5:00 p.m.
Holiday Hours: 8:00 to 3:00 p.m. or Closed
We will update our Facebook, Twitter, Blog, and Website with any changes that occur during emergencies or holidays.
Tips for Medication during Emergencies
When a power outage occurs, we think about preserving our food for as long as we can.
Those who are on specialty medications that need refrigeration need to take extra steps.
- We advise having a cooler on hand with ice packs to keep your medications at the appropriate temperature.
- Another step is to call your doctor and pharmacy to coordinate your medications to ensure you have enough at home.
- If you need someone to deliver them because you do not have transportation, we can coordinate a delivery with you.
Natural disasters can be predicted but power outages, unless planned in advance, can throw our daily routines and business operations a big curve. Just know that as a URAC Certified Pharmacy and one always here to serve our community, we will make our services and products available when those events happen.
