When it comes to our health, we need to look at all the things that make our bodies work. We need to make sure that as we get older, we cut back on all of the sweet, salty, alcoholic drinks, and fatty foods we ate as twenty-somethings. It takes tremendous willpower to stop ourselves from going to get that pizza at 10 p.m. or that late night snack when we can’t get to sleep.
Stop looking at Food Pictures when hungry
But that is easier said than done with all the pictures that we are bombarded with on Twitter and Facebook. It almost seems that the person who is eating that burger is having a better time than the person posting pictures of themselves working out at the gym. We must make sure that we are moving out of the house and away from the computer and even phones.
Our careers might be hurting our nutrition
As we become a more sedentary society, unlike many of our ancestors who had a more active lifestyle, we must make it a good habit to have well balanced meals. The first thing we eat for breakfast sets the tone for how our mornings will evolve. If you are just grabbing toast and coffee with no other essential nutrients such as proteins, vegetables, or fruit, our bodies will run out of steam before lunch time.
Factor in that many of us have office jobs where we are in front of a screen for a majority of the day, and eat at our desks, our weight increases without us even noticing. It isn’t until we take a picture, or put on our favorite jeans, that we realize we have gained some weight. It takes effort on your part to start making changes that will benefit you in the long-term.
Changing our nutrition to fit our lifestyles
If you think that all you need is coffee to get you going in the morning, think again. The first thing you should do when you get up is drink water. If you think that water is too plain, prepare lemon or fruit infused water before you go to bed. That way the first thing you do is, have water to get yourself going and make the time to prepare breakfast.
We suggest getting adequate sleep by leaving all electronics including, televisions, and cellphones out of the bedroom. You will be rested enough to get up early and make your breakfast. Remember when mom would have eggs, oatmeal, a cup of fruit with water, and milk ready for us to eat before school? You can do the same with boiling eggs and cutting up fruits the night before.
Do you know a group of friends that go walking in the morning or afternoon? Join them and bring along your family that includes your family dog who is the biggest motivator to go out and exercise.
Not only will you feel great about eating healthier, you will make sure that your own family members have successful and healthier lives.
